MIPIM 2010 Results

MIPIM is a major international fair of commercial real estate held in Cannes, France, annually.
Like the famous Cannes Film Festival, the central event of the world film industry, MIPIM is the most powerful magnet for property market professionals from Europe and the entire world.
MIPIM brings together major international investors, city and regional authorities, bankers, lawyers, architects, designers, builders, journalists, hotels, managing companies and all those seeking investments.
Guild of Property Managers and Developers (GMD) made an extensive program for Russian delegation at MIPIM 2010. The program included 10 events with the participation of 58 speakers, 26 talks between companies, project presentations etc. GDM group numbered 114 persons from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and other regions, including the representatives of such large companies as VTB, YIT, NCC, Start Development who contributed into the program. At the request of Ulyanovsk regional government GMD arranged meetings with potential investors and partners in the implementation of development projects in the region.
First day. Formal opening of the stand of Saint-Petersburg was followed by the City Talk. The example of St. Petersburg was used in the discussion of challenges faced by large European cities in the development of post-industrial economy and creating a comfortable business environment. The experience of London, Antwerp and Hamburg was shared with the interested audience of authorities and development market professionals from large Russian cities. A follow-up was provided by the panel discussion “Architecture and 2Ecos” in which European and Russian architectures, developers and investors talked about the relationship between city economy and architecture/urban planning decisions. Sergrey Tchoban, the discussion moderator, mentioned that in cities like Saint-Petersburg it is of special importance to maintain the high quality of new projects to comply with the level set by historical ensembles and buildings.
Second day began with the PROEstate Organizing Committee meeting. MIPIM is the starting point for launching the active stage of PROEstate Forum preparations. This year it will be held on September 8 - 10 in St. Petersburg Main themes of its traditionally strong conference program were discussed. Western members of the Organizing Committee made comments aimed at making PROEstate more international. Vice-Governor of Saint-Petersburg Yuri Molchanov believes that the Forum will demonstrate first signs and projects of economic recovery in Russia and Northern Europe. He expects more Nordic participants in PROEstate 2010, also coming by daily ferry boats recently launched between St. Petersburg and Helsinki.
Russian and Western professionals had productive discussions on the hotel market development. The hotel discussion concentrated on the current demands of the market and most feasible projects with guaranteed commercial success. It was attended by F. Jurkowitch, CEO of Warimpex, the investor company of a MIPIM-winner hotel project. The representatives of St. Petersburg core committees, CEOs of Russian and foreign companies discussed European experience and opportunities for the development of commercial property around transport hubs. According to Vitaly Votolevsky (the CEO of Zheldoripoteka) a strategic program for such development would make the projects more efficient and attract more developers into the infrastructural projects.
Main event of the Second day was the Second Cannes Investors Club meeting, where challenges of first post-crisis investment projects in Russia and Western Europe were discussed.
Third day program started with the presentation “GMD - the leading Russian association of real estate professionals”, which was announced in the MIPIM program of events. Program of the day included events on the efficient management of commercial property and sustainable solutions for urban development and construction. The best world practices for keeping the urban business environment clean and green were presented. Olga Arkhangelskaya, managing partner of Ernst & Young, summarized the contemporary world practice: green standards significantly increase the economic efficiency of development projects. Same day the presentation of a new GMD Expert Council for the interaction with banks on mortgaged assets was made.
GMD program at MIPIM has received a good coverage in the professional media. Several cities - regional centers held talks with GMD team about cooperation within international events and exhibitions. The Guild of Property Managers and Developers has great plans for MIPIM 2011!
